Estimated mileage: 450

Estimate driving time: 8 hrs

We start at the now infamous Port D’Angleterre Entrance, Cite Europe.  Early morning registration starts from 8am with the start of the Scally 2007 at 9am. (Registration will also be available on Thursday evening). An early arrival will allow you to continue the banter and finally take a look at the complete field of Scally cars in all their magnificent glory.

The drive on day 1 is going to be a long one to get us down through France and into Switzerland so that we can make the most of the next 3 days and hit as many stunning Alpine Roads as possible.

We will offer a direct route for day 1 but try to including some scenic roads towards the latter stages of the day – with all those border crossings being so close though we think that they may play a part in the days challenge ….

Once we get nearer our destination we will include a route through the Ballons des Vogues which is a stunning National Park on the French/Swiss boarder with some superb views worthy of a look.

Our destination for day 1 is the beautiful city of Basel, which spans across 3 countries (Germany, France & Switzerland). It’s built up around a meander on the Rhine and offers a unique range of cultures and is one of Europe’s best preserved old towns .. so let’s take some of Europe’s best preserved old bangers there for a good old knees-up.

For Day 2 we’ll be suggesting an early start to help everyone arrive in daylight at our destination.  Day 2 as always will be the toughest day for those wishing to complete the full route.

The drive will take us south through the heart of Switzerland towards Bern, via Interlaken and along the shores of the beautiful Swiss Mountain Lakes.  The challenge will then involve encountering some of the most famous Swiss Alp passes (Grimselpass, Furkapass & Passe de san Gottardo). *

All 3 of the passes are over 7000ft and will be demanding to both drivers and cars.  Each pass is unique and offers a mixture of breathtaking scenery along with some fine surface and our favourite type of hairpins.

We then head into Italy for the days finish around Lake Como, just 30 mins north of Milan.  The historic town of Como has a mix of Mediterranean culture but with the Swiss mountains as a backdrop. For those that are still with us why not pull up a chair alongside the lake and sip some fine Swiss beer while sampling some traditional Italian cuisine.

* Due to the demanding days drive an alternative route will be available.

Stelvio – the “King of passes” and a road that should not be underestimated. *

Day 3 includes the mighty pass that must be seen to be believed – we will only recommend that you attempt today’s route if you have full faith in your cars ability to tackle the most demanding of roads after already suffering from Day 2’s triple encounter with the best the Swiss have to offer.

To get to Stelvio we leave Como and travel north along the far side of the lake, then east via Sondrio and Tirano.

Our destination will be the most amazing town of Cortina d’Ampezzo set in the middle of the Dolomite mountains.  The drive from Bolzano to Cortina is ranked in the top 5 greatest drives in Europe and the timing will be perfect as we travel through the Dolomite mountains into the evening, where these most unique mountains will change colour before your very own eyes (exhaust fumes not required)

Cortina is an elegant town that is busy all year round.  The town is used by alpine drivers (not the banger kind – I’m sure they’ll love us the most) to rest their tired steeds after a hard days driving in the mountains.

* Due to the demanding days drive an alternative route will be available.

We’ll leave Cortina heading south towards Vittorio, then Veneto. We suggest jumping on the motorway to ensure that you have enough time to stop off in the stunning city of Venice. You will be able to park up and catch a water taxi to experience the surreal sights of the Grand Canal.

Find your car and then it’s the road to Rimini along the coast of the Adriatic.

We’re looking for a suitable venue to host our (sc)rap party. We aim to get underway from 8pm where the prize giving ceremony will award the winners of Scally Rally 2007.

Rimini boasts over 20km of award winning beach, which may be a good way of recovering from the exploits of the night before.

We hope that you may be able to add a couple of days onto your trip to make the most of the resort or even pop back up to Venice and spend a little more time there.

UK operators fly from Rimini, Venice and Bologna so a cheap flight home should be possible if you choose to retire your trusted motor in the sun.
